Flint Hill Breaks Ground on New Veterans Memorial Park The City of Flint Hill proudly celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Veterans Memorial Park, marking the beginning of a project that will provide a lasting tribute to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The ceremony was hosted by Mayor Doug Wynn and brought together veterans, elected officials, community leaders, residents, and supporters from across St. Charles County to commemorate this historic milestone. The inspiration for the memorial came from Flint Hill resident and Vietnam veteran Charles Bastean , whose vision of creating a dedicated place to honor the community's veterans grew into a project embraced by the City. What began as a simple request for a city-owned flagpole evolved into a memorial that will recognize the service and sacrifice of veterans from every generation while providing a place for reflection, remembrance, and patriotic ceremonies. Several distinguished guests attended the ceremony, including St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann , Cottleville Mayor Stephen Thompson , Dardenne Prairie Mayor Keith Widaman , and Lake St. Louis Mayor Brian McKinney , along with numerous local elected officials, civic leaders, and community members. The ceremony opened with the presentation of the colors by the Wentzville American Legion , while members of the Wentzville Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) joined fellow veterans in attendance to honor those who have served our nation. During his remarks, Mayor Doug Wynn reflected on the significance of the project and the community effort that made it possible. "This memorial is a testament to the sacrifices made by our veterans, and we are committed to creating a space that honors their service and legacy. It will serve as a place where families can remember loved ones, where residents can gather in gratitude, and where future generations will learn the importance of service, sacrifice, and patriotism." The Veterans Memorial Park will feature a beautifully landscaped plaza centered around three flagpoles displaying the United States, Missouri, and City of Flint Hill flags. The memorial will also include engraved commemorative pavers, benches for quiet reflection, and space for future Veterans Day ceremonies, Memorial Day observances, and other community events honoring military service. The City recognizes that this project would not be possible without the support of residents, local businesses, veterans' organizations, donors, volunteers, and community partners who have contributed their time, resources, and encouragement throughout the planning process. Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with completion anticipated by fall of 2026. Once finished, the Flint Hill Veterans Memorial Park will stand as a permanent reminder of the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of those who have worn our nation's uniform and as a lasting symbol of the City's commitment to honoring their legacy for generations to come.

Bring Your Own Bag Day — November 14, 2026 Join the Show Me Sustainable Challenge for Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB) Day on Saturday, November 14, 2026 , and help reduce the use of single-use plastic bags in our community. Residents are encouraged to bring reusable bags when shopping at participating local retailers. One reusable bag can replace hundreds of plastic bags , helping reduce waste in landfills and the environment. Participating businesses may also offer special prizes, discounts, or other incentives to customers who bring their own bags. Local Businesses — Get Involved! Local retailers are invited to participate by encouraging customers to skip single-use plastic bags and bring reusable bags instead. Businesses can support the event by offering an incentive, discount, prize, or other promotion to customers who bring their own bags. Business participation sign-up deadline: September 1, 2026. The event is part of a broader effort by MO Green Future – Show Me Sustainable , Beyond Plastics Affiliate , MidAmerica Clean Future , and other community partners to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable practices throughout Missouri. Matt Wynn Returns Home for Two Nights of Country Music in Flint Hill Country singer-songwriter Matt Wynn is coming home to Flint Hill for two special hometown performances at Fiesta Hill Mexican Bar & Grill on Friday, October 2, and Saturday, October 3, 2026 . Wynn will perform from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. both evenings at Fiesta Hill, located at 5074 Highway P . His official tour schedule bills the appearances as his “Flint Hill Hometown Shows.” Now based in Nashville, Wynn has built a career as both a performing artist and songwriter while maintaining strong ties to his Flint Hill roots. His official biography describes years spent developing his craft and writing alongside artists including Phil Vassar, Aaron Tippin, Billy Dean, Andy Griggs, James Otto and Reba McEntire . As a performer, he has appeared on bills with artists such as Luke Combs, Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne, Brett Young, Sam Hunt, Vince Gill, Trace Adkins and Gretchen Wilson , among many others. Wynn has also earned significant recognition as a songwriter. He co-wrote “Seven Minutes in Heaven,” recorded by Reba McEntire for her Not That Fancy project, and “Live Like That,” performed by Kristin Chenoweth and featured during the closing credits of the Angel Studios film The King of Kings . He has also written songs recorded by country artist Alexandra Kay, including “Feminine Energy.” His connection to Flint Hill is especially evident in his recent song “One Less Cornfield.” According to Wynn's website, the song was inspired by a visit home to Flint Hill and seeing farmland divided for subdivisions and smaller parcels. Wynn describes the song, co-written with Andrew Capra and Davis Branch, as an ode to farmers and their families. The October performances will give local residents a chance to hear a Nashville singer-songwriter with deep hometown roots in an intimate setting close to home. With two evenings scheduled, fans can enjoy Wynn's original music, country favorites and the storytelling that has become an important part of his songwriting career.
